I do basically the same thing, but I don't have a gadget. I just use a wooden spoon and do it over a large bowl. I found a video on YouTube of a guy who deseeds them the same way I do. Here's the link:

Yay...a new vlog! I've never dissected a pomegranate before. My only experience with it has been with the few bits in my Chobani. Watching you beat that thing with two spoons was very amusing. I'm totally buying my first pomegranate this week and beating it into submission. :)
Loved this Tracey! I also was skeptical about it actually working with just the spoons, but it did. So I was out at the store and picked up a pom. I don't have the gadget, but I think I'm going to improvise. Watching this reminded me of how much I love poms! :)
Interesting little contraption. I basically cut it in four pieces and soak them in water then peel it back and the seeds pop out. Either way the juice gets everywhere but its worth it!
