Sparklie

I posted a picture on Facebook and Twitter the other day and a bunch of you want details! lol Just in case you don't follow me on either, here is the picture:

I understand a few people already though Sean and I were married. We already feel like we are too, but without the medical coverage. lol

So, after 10 1/2 years we are engaged. Not to sound unromantic, but it was bound to happen. lol We had discussed that 2011 would be a good year to do it and I joked before about the medical, but that would be a great savings! lol

I also discussed many years ago with Sean that I did not want him to go out and surprise me with a ring.  I already had a ring I wore, maybe the reason some people thought we were already hitched! This ring was my Nan's-
She told me it was going to be mine when I was little and wanted to play with it. She also told me that I could do whatever I wanted with the ring, maybe make a solitaire diamond necklace with it. I told her NO, I wanted to leave it as it is.

I decided that when we were ready, I wanted to have a ring made that looked like my Nan's. We used the center diamond from her ring (the side diamonds were  not in the best condition) and I was able to have the new one made to remember my Nan & Papa's love that they shared for each other. :)  I love it...it means so much to me. It is a mix of old & new love, and memories. It makes me smile when I look at it, and cry all at the same time. :)

As far as everyone asking details about what kind of wedding we will be having.... all of those are details that I sorta differ from the average girl. lol Neither one of us want a big deal wedding. We want it to be private, simple & small. No big pouffy dress, no huge ceremony...just lots of luv. :)

So, that's the story! I looked for a picture of my Nan & Papa...but I have no pics on my computer of them, and no scanner to get any on here. I know they would be happy for Sean and I. My Nan died the 1st year we were dating. She knew about him, but being across the country she had never met him. The only thing she asked me was, "Does he make you happy?" Speaking to her on the phone I replied, "Yes, yes he does."

:)

I'm having a GREAT week on plan...lots of leftover last week, lots of studying for my sessions and practicing the stuff I am learning so that is why I have been absent from the blogging world! :-/

I need to meal plan and make a shopping list this AM to get a jump start on next week! Do you meal plan or at least plan a few meals for the upcoming week to help you stay on track? Have you made any NEW PointsPlus recipes that you can recommend? I think I'm going to grab that new cookbook right now to flip through it!

Happy Sunday Everyone! :)

BYE!

  2. Congrats and that's a beautiful ring!

I plan my meals. Usually I go through my cookbooks and figure it out before I go shopping. Helps me stay on track at the store. But I usually end up spending too much anyway!

  11. This is awesome! I'm sending you a big cyber hug. I was with my man for many years before we got married and it was the best thing we ever did. What a great step for 2011. Way to go! Start practicing saying, "husband" instead of "boyfriend"...

  12. Beautiful ring. Beautiful thoughts behind the creation of it. I just lost my Grandma a little over a month ago. I totally get how special our Grandma's are.

  16. The jeweler did great justice to your Nan's diamond! So heartwarming that she knew how happy you were before she passed. Congratulations you two!!!

We had a small wedding with only about 20 people. 11 years later, we have no regrets. :)

  18. I thought your ring was beautiful before...Now I think it's precious. What a wonderful legacy from your grandparents. I had a small wedding too...My husband and I had a week off from the army to get married, get our honeymoon on and get back. We had to go before a justice of the peace. If I had to do it over, I would do it in front of a preacher. And I have been thinking of it lately...renewing our vows. Maybe at our 20 year which is only two years away now. We'll see. In any case. It's not about the wedding, it's about the marriage. God's blessings on your impending marriage.

  19. Yeah! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! And the ring...well, it's GORGEOUS!

I had to smile when you said that you used to play with your nan's ring when you were young and she told that you one day it would be yours and you could do whatever you wanted with it. I have a very similar story.

My grandmother had a beautiful diamond ring (thought so anyway) that I always admired when I was little. When I became a teenager, she told me that when she wanted to leave it to me when she died, but she was very insistant that she wanted me to have it reset. We actually argued a little about it, and I told her I would NEVER have it reset.

So when she died, the ring went to me. Unfortunately, by then, it wouldn't fit on my ringer finger. Once in a while, I would wear it on my pinky finger but always felt self conscious about that and afraid it would come off. I didn't wear it much.

Well, things have changed. Since reaching goal, I am no longer able to wear my own engagement ring and wedding band and we just haven't gotten around to having them resized. One day, I reached into my jewelry box and pulled out grandmom's ring and....slipped it right on my ring finger! I wear it all the time now along with the wedding band that my father gave my mom. She gave it to me several years ago.

It is such a joy to look down on my hand and have such wonderful memories when I look at those two rings.

Anyway, so happy for you! Yeah!

  20. Once again, congrats!!

I love the story behind your ring...I have a similar story. My Dad gave my Mom a gorgeous diamond engagement ring and the diamond was a family heirloom. My parents were divorced when I was three and my Dad told my Mom that he wanted me to have the diamond "some day." Well, in my mid 20s, I eloped (for all the wrong reasons, although at the time I didn't admit it) and I told my mother that I wanted the diamond. She told me I wasn't ready. I was upset.

That marriage didn't last long and afterwards she told me that she was worried that he'd steal it. Fast forward several years, and I'd met Tim. We'd been dating a couple of years but were not engaged. My mother made a big production out of giving me the diamond for my birthday (and yeah, Tim was present). We were engaged five months later :-)

  21. TJ,

Congratulations! The ring is BEAUTIFUL and the story behind it very meaningful and moving.

Wrt meals? I'm a big time planner. I'm cooking for my husband, two kids and me. I choose 3-4 recipes for the week, plus 1-2 "back up plans" (This would be something like pre-made frozen salmon or turkey burgers that I can throw together with little or no thought and have a reasonably healthy meal)I write down the list of recipes, make my grocery list based on the recipes, then put the list and the recipes on the frig with a magnet. When I get home from work all I have to do is look at the list and decide what sounds good for that night. I know I have the ingredients because I shopped based on those recipes. It's almost like ordering from a menu, except I have to do the cooking! Anyway, it works for me and after a long day at the office I don't have to be all creative and figure out what I want, what we have and so on. I also make enough so that husband and I have portions to take for lunches. That helps make mornings go a little smoother ('cause lunch is already made), helps the budget and keeps the calories more reasonable than most eating out choices.
