Speaking of my RUNNING ENVY- I was getting a little upset at reading everyone doing the C25K's, entering local 5K's and also with the WW walk it challenge (that my leader says I can count my pool activity) I just got down on myself an started to focus on things I CAN'T DO. Years ago when I had to stop working & also stop doing activities that I enjoyed, I focused on the negative things. Just this morning I had to REMIND myself that I need to focus my energy on what I CAN DO. :) Going to the pool right now is something that I am proud of myself for being able to do. So anyone who is struggling with weight & is limited to what exercises you CAN DO, it CAN be done on food alone. I am proof. :)
Today after my WW meeting I went out to eat lunch with my friend Gwen (hi!) We have been friends since Jr. High and it was nice to get together. :) I looked up points for Panera Bakery before hand and had 1/2 a sandwich and a cup of soup for 8 points. I was so busy chatting I skipped a pic! Darn it! After a nice visit chatting I headed over to see my parents since it was close to where they live and it was my Dad's day off. Oh yeah and they were having steak for dinner! lol 4oz Filet, baked sweet potato, roasted garlic broccoli, and a beet & garbanzo bean salad- YUM!
Bowl of fruit for dessert-
Thanks Mom & Dad for a YUMMY meal! :) WIth the meal out for lunch and the bigger dinner than usual I am over my points for the day. I know that those weeklies are there for that reason- see how nice the Weight Watchers program is! SO DOABLE! :) Whoohoo!Off to watch the NBA Playoffs- GO LAKERS! I'm gonna be in a bad mood if they don't win tonight...just warning ya! lol Hope everyone had a GREAT day! BYE! :)
What a great post TJ.
ReplyDeleteI just directed my friend Amber your way.
She has hurt her knee and just can't do the exercise she normally does.
This is right up her alley.
Thank you, I as Chris just said (up) was sent here to check out your blog!
ReplyDeleteI soo needed this today. I have been "grounded" from running for the last 4 weeks and still have 4 more weeks until I get it checked again. With out running I have been trying other workouts, biking, elliptical, workout DVD's and some walking. So far the bike is the only pain free workout. (but I don't like it) Yet, like you said "focus on what I can do", I CAN ride the bike and I CAN control what I eat.
So thanks for the kick in the butt!
Amber
no worries bub!!!! hang in there...u can do it!!!!
ReplyDeleteHugs!!!! I have been out of commission since January 1st. I completely understand the pain of going from working out nonstop to being sidelined. I finally have a date set by medical professionals where I can start doing lower body work again (a couple more weeks away) and I am stoked!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the post, hon! It's a difficult battle, some weeks more uphill than others. You will do better next week!
ReplyDeleteI hurt my knee doing Bollywood dance Sunday and haven't been able to do as much daily cardio as I have been. SO WORRIED about the scale this weekend already! But we cannot live by numbers, or negatives alone.
*HUGS*!!!!

You are so right. You have to focus on the things we CAN do. I swear I just wrote that I need to stop thinking of exercise as a chore and start thinking about it as a privilege. I should be so happy that I am physically ABLE to move with no problems.
ReplyDeleteIts hard to picture you having a bad attitude. I don't believe it. :o)
I agree with Lola you having a bad attitude I just cannot picture it at all! Always keep in mind what you can do and never think you cant do something because you definitely can. You are strong and powerful and can achieve anything!

Yes, TJ! Way to focus on what you CAN DO! I completely agree with you on being able to lose weight with food alone. I can exercise my butt off, but if I don't keep the food under control, I will gain weight.
ReplyDeleteKeep doing what you love and what your body can handle. Being healthy is not only about running races, it's about respecting your body and what it needs. You are doing that!
Thank you so much, TJ. I can get into a "poor me" mindset pretty easily with my knees still not having bounced back the way I thought they would. You are so right...there are a ton of things I CAN do. Taking an inventory of those is a great antidote for the "poor me's". But I also appreciate your honesty that at times even you get feeling down. You are so positive, and yet it's good for us to see that no one is immune from an occasional down day.
ReplyDeleteI know just how you feel about the exercise piece. I use to jog but I now have bad knees and I have to walk instead. I get to feeling bad reading all the blog posts about people training for races!
ReplyDeleteYour post was a good reminder to focus on the positive and think about all things I can do for exercise which are many!
Thanks for lifting my spirits TJ. Wishing you well this week and I hope you have a great loss next weigh in.
Thanks for keeping it real TJ, great post
ReplyDeleteSometimes I think the "weeklies" and the "activity points" lurk out there and convince me that it's OK to indulge a bit. When I leave them alone, I have a more successful week.
ReplyDeleteI know you'll hang in there and keep doing very well. It's just a smidge!
I like how your folks eat. Good stuff! Don't totally understand the WW point system but it seems if you're more active and then get hungry, you should eat. Only a string of future weigh-ins will tell the whole story.
ReplyDeleteYour a fantastic example that it can be done with food alone, if excercise isn't an option.Keep up the fabulous work TJ!!
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine how I'd manage doing it with my eating alone. I give you a lot of credit.
ReplyDeleteThanks again for being my super model for today's post!
Your body is probably adjusting to the pool exerciseif anything. If you gained 3 lbs Id say you were eating too much, but 0.8 is nothing!!! You are doing awesome!
ReplyDeleteI think you have such a great attitude for when the scale isn't your friend. I know you will turn that gain around next week. :)
ReplyDeleteI think it's really important to focus on what you CAN do versus CAN'T....you are doing awesome at the pool and you LOVE it...that's all that really matters :)
That dinner looks great! I love sweet potatoes!
ReplyDeleteI have been doing the C25k training. Yet, I have been having pool envy. I admire you pool workouts! It is something I have never tried and am a little intimidated by it. Be proud! Happy for you the Lakers won. But this is where my happiness ends. If everything goes well tonight my Jazz will be awaiting your Lakers in the next round! :)
ReplyDeleteI wish I had access to a pool for workouts, it would be so much more fun, I think. Last year I started to try running, and within the first week I gave myself plantar fascitis. I was soooo upset, I had been walking just fine for weeks, I was in a groove, but when that happened I had to stop everything. My foot hurt so much, I ended up getting a cortisone shot and it still hurt. It took six months to get it better, and now I'm back at c25k and so far so good, I know what to look out for and I watch for any warning signs. I'm keeping my fingers crossed this time. Come to think of it, if I'd had a pool to swim in last year it would have been great for my foot! ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat focus on the positive! The pool activity is an awesome commitment. We all have to accept what fits into our schedule and life. I've also been eyeing those C25K-ers and I'm jealous. I just know I have a lot going on in my life right now but maybe in the future I will be up for it. Right now my thing is the DVD workout rotations I do. It works & fits for me.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
